As stated before, Books is an application, maintained by just one author, who should know about the expected data. Thus, there is no user interface with immediate response after each input or lots of hints. Of course, those features are essential for an application for potentially “unknown” users. Later on, when developing Alumni, we will cover those features in detail. However, a validation is useful to prevent the user from entering data which might not fit the database.
Source code available
I finished the chapter “Internationalization and Localization” of my book “Web Development with Java and JSF” [1] . Now the book reached about 250 pages.
Source code for the applications as described so far is available from [2]. Developed with the current version of NetBeans and GlassFish.

NetBeans 8.0.1 translated
Looking for a French, Spanish, German or other translation? Just a few days after its release, NetBeans 8.0.1 is available for a couple of different languages [1].
NetBeans 8.0.1 available
The latest version of NetBeans is available for download now [1]. For more information read the New and Noteworthy page [2].

Have you heard about the series “My top 5 NetBeans features”? NetBeans users report their favorite features. I just want to point out only one small (and almost hidden), but valuable feature, which is included in the upcoming version NetBeans 8.0.1.
webdevelopment-java.info launched
Today I launched my new web site http://webdevelopment-java.info.
This site is related with my book “Web Development with Java and JSF”, which is a superset of my “Tutorial web development (with JSF)”. In fact, this book contains much more info than my tutorial.
By now, there isn’t much content on my new site. However, source code for part I (TinyCalculator) is available. Source code for part II (Books) will be receivable soon.
NetBeans 8.0.1 bundled with GlasfFish 4.0.1
Since today, the NetBeans latest build [1] is available bundled with GlassFish 4.0.1 (build 09).
GlassFish 4.0.1 includes newer versions of JSF, CDI and more. And, the most important fact: You can launch it using Java 8. Continue reading “NetBeans 8.0.1 bundled with GlasfFish 4.0.1”
NetBeans Nightly
Do you want to be on the bleeding edge and use NetBeans nightly builds?
Then you might have noticed that the last version is still of July, 9th. There is a technical problem uploading the bits to the usual location. But, nightly builds are still available.
Try to get it directly from the Hudson server [1]. Just one little drawback: Only the zip version is available, not the installer. But, it should be no problem to use this distribution 😉

Update: A couple of hours after this post, NB nightly became functional again [2]. Keep the link above for further usage.
Web Development with Java and JSF
I just published the first version of my book “Web Development with Java and JSF” (and with a bit of NetBeans too) [1]. It’s in an early state now. Start reading yet and get all updates for free.
Enjoy!
